Introduction of Department of Anesthesiology of

Peking University Third Hospital

The Department of Anesthesiology of Peking University Third hospital was founded in 1987. Before that, the Anesthesia Group was a branch of the Surgical Department guided by Professor Yin Daguang. During the 1960s, the Anesthesia Group carried a lot of clinical work in acupuncture anesthesia and gained nation wide reputation.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the faculties brought more modern techniques, drugs and equipments into practice. Since the formal establishment in 1987, the Department of Anesthesiology has been persistently developing and expanding under the leadership of Professor Jiang Jianyu, Li Zhao, Jin Qingchen and Zhang Liping. We provided about 20,000 cases of anesthesia in 2008. This large number of cases, integrated with ongoing research and education, results in wide-ranging expertise in the anesthetic management of all kinds of surgeries.

In May 2009, Professor Guo Xiangyang became the new Chairman of our department. Our department will certainly thrive under his dynamic and visionary leadership, contribute more to the development of our hospital, and gain more recognition and respect in the field of Anesthesiology home and abroad.
