According to basic principles and methods of fluid mechanics and electrophysiology, urodynamics is used to test pressure of the urinary tract in order to know the function of urinary filling and voiding as well as the pathophysiologic disorders of some voiding dysfunction diseases. Urodynamics can help us diagnose some diseases, provide essential reference for treatment, and predict the therapeutic efficacy.

The subject of urodynamics is dysfunction of lower urinary tract for all reasons, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, urethral stricture, male and female incontinence, neurogenic bladder, voiding dysfunction caused by diabetes mellitus and so on. The urodynamic examinations includes test of uroflowmetry, cystometry, urethral pressure studies, pressure-flow studies, electrophysiologic studies, cystometry-uroflowmetry studies and so on. According to this, we can objectively assess the filling function, the voiding function and the situation of urethra and bladder during urinary filling and voiding. According to the procedure of International Continence Society, we have examined about two thousand of patients in all over our country.
