The emergency department of Peking University Third Hospital was founded in 1984. After 40 years of trials and accumulation, through the efforts and dedication of several generations of emergency medical personnel, it has a high reputation in Beijing and even the national emergency medical field. In 2022, it was selected as the national key clinical specialty.
The emergency department of Peking University Third Hospital now has more than 200 doctors and nurses, mainly young and middle-aged, with a solid foundation and conditions for sustainable development. It is divided into one department and five divisions (Main Department, Airport Hospital District, Chongli Hospital District, Qinhuangdao Hospital District, and North New District). There are 133 open beds in the Main Department, which is divided into five units: Consulting Room, Observation Room, Emergency Room, Emergency Ward and Emergency Intensive Care Unit, serving nearly 300 thousand patients per year. Focusing on the clinical diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of acute and critical diseases and incurable diseases, six technical teams with one specialty and multiple abilities have been established (including the heart and large vascular professional group, The recovery and neurology specialist group, the poisoning and blood purification specialist group, severe cases and infection specialist group, digestion and nutrition specialist group, and trauma and disaster relief specialist group) have steadily improved their critical care capacity, becoming a referral center for acute critical cases in Haidian district and distant suburban counties in Beijing. Cardiac arrest is a serious threat to the life of patients. China is a major cause of cardiac arrest but not a powerful country to treat it. In response to this industry pain point, Director Ma Qingbian led the team to pioneer the cold treatment of the first cardiac arrest in China in 2012. In 2016, we pioneered in-vitro pulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) in China, and relied on these two key technologies to build an internationally integrated and domestically leading cardiac arrest treatment system, which greatly improved the treatment success rate of cardiac patients. At the same time, a comprehensive poisoning treatment system has been established, creating a first-class treatment platform for acute critical cases in China. The outstanding professionalism has also laid a strong foundation for public health reserve work, and has achieved a series of results in emergency relief.
The emergency department of Peking University Third Hospital is one of the first certified training bases for emergency medical residents and specialists, as well as the training bases for emergency nurses of Beijing Nursing Association and Chinese Nursing Association. It undertakes a large number of teaching tasks such as eight-year program, undergraduate, graduate, specialist, refresher doctor, continuing education, etc. It has cultivated a large number of emergency medicine talents.
Over the past five years, the emergency department of Peking University Third Hospital has conducted more than 10 national and provincial scientific research projects. He has published more than 90 papers in SCI and core journals, won more than 20 patents, led the development of more than 10 expert consensus / guidelines, and compiled eight professional books, making a positive contribution to the development of emergency medicine.
