The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH) was established by the renowned internist professor Huang Dayou in 1984 and officially founded in 1985. Through the relentless efforts of successive department heads, including Li Qiongfang, Deng Zhengzhao, and Hong Tianpei, the department has developed substantial comprehensive capabilities in clinical care, teaching, and research. It has become a leading endocrinology team in large domestic hospitals. The Department of Endocrinology currently comprises 49 medical and technical staff, including 5 professors and chief physicians, 2 researchers, 7 associate professors and associate chief physicians, 10 attending physicians, 1 assistant researcher, 6 resident physicians, 3 senior technicians, 2 associate chief nurses, 7 senior nurses, and 5 nurses. Among them, 23 individuals hold doctoral degrees, and 2 diabetes specialist nurses have received specialized training at the Joslin Diabetes Center in the United States and in Hong Kong. The department encompasses several units, including an endocrinology ward (30 beds in the main hospital and 20 beds in the international airport hospital), an endocrinology outpatient, an endocrinology laboratory, and a specialized clinical pharmacology unit.
