Minimal invasion is the soul of surgery. Under the premise of thorough curing of diseases, it is the pursuit of surgeons to reduce surgical suffering. With the development of technology, laparoscopic surgery has come true and gradually mature, taking the gospel to patients.
In 1998, we started laparoscopic surgery, and became mature after 2002. Lots of surgeries, which required a long incision over 10 cm long previously, can be completed with three to four wounds in the size of a key hole by laparoscopy. The laparoscopic surgery greatly reduces the suffering of the patients, shortens the hospitalization time, and improves the patient's quality of life.
Our department takes the domestic leading position in laparoscopic surgery. Until December 2008, nearly 180 cases of laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy have been completed, which is the largest number of domestic major hospitals, achieving the international quality, more than 70 cases of radical prostatectomy have been completed, which is the largest number of major hospitals in Beijing, among the best in the country, the department completed total cystectomy with the Studer bladder reconstruction in situ firstly in China. Other laparoscopic surgeries include: adrenalectomy for adrenal tumor(including huge adrenal tumors), radical nephrectomy of renal cell carcinoma, total length of nephroureterectomy (to treat the pelvic or ureteral tumors), unroofing of cyst of kidney, partial nephrectomy, ureterolithotomy, retroperitoneal lymph nodes dissection, chyle vessel ligation for chyluria and spermatic vein ligation, etc.
Since 2004, we have held 6 times of national urological laparoscopic study class, of which each had more than 300 trainees in past two years; one time of relatives laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy for renal transplantation study class, with accumulated more than 1,000 trainees.
Our department is a training base for endoscopic diagnosis and treatment techniques, which is one of the two bases in Beijing. The department published two monographs: editors-in-chief of "Atlas of Laparoscopic Surgery in Urology" (2007, People's Health Press), translators-in-chief of "Atlas of Laparoscopic Retroperitoneal Surgery" (2004, Peking University Medical Press); involved in the compilation of more than 10 monographs: "The Diagnosis and Treatment of Urological Endoscope", "The Prevention and Treatment of Urological Surgery Complications" etc.
