On March 12, 2024, the research team of Wei Rui from the Department of Endocrinology and Hong Tianpei from Peking University Third Hospital, in collaboration with the team of Zhang Zhe, Associate Research Fellow from the Department of Urology/Center of Reproductive Medicine, published their latest findings online in the American Diabetes Association's official journal, *Diabetes*. The study, titled "Gut microbiota–tryptophan metabolism–GLP-1 axis participates in β-cell regeneration induced by dapagliflozin," reveals a new mechanism by which SGLT2 inhibitors promote the regeneration of pancreatic β-cells. This provides a theoretical basis for developing new drug targets and optimizing diabetes treatment strategies. Endocrinology PhD students Jiang Yafei and Xia Li, along with Associate Professor Yang Jin, are co-first authors of the study, with Wei Rui, Hong Tianpei, and Zhang Zhe as co-corresponding authors.
