The integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine is an essential part of China's healthcare system. Emphasizing both traditional Chinese and Western medicine is one of the guidelines of China's health and wellness initiatives in the new era and a distinctive feature and advantage of the country's medical and health services. Comprehensive hospitals are the backbone of the traditional Chinese medicine service system.
Peking University Third Hospital has been actively working to strengthen the collaborative development of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. By combining hospital practice and identifying key points of integration, the hospital has focused on areas such as reproductive medicine, sports medicine, and oncology. It has also actively explored and effectively implemented models of collaboration between traditional Chinese and Western medicine, especially through its Traditional Chinese Medicine Department. In 2016, the hospital was honored as a national model unit for traditional Chinese medicine work in comprehensive hospitals. In 2023, it was successfully selected as a national-level traditional Chinese and Western medicine collaborative "flagship" hospital pilot unit. The selection of these three clinical departments as Beijing municipal-level traditional Chinese and Western medicine collaborative "flagship" construction units not only reflects their active and effective work in integrating traditional Chinese and Western medical practices in disease treatment but also showcases their comprehensive strength in treating common, frequent, and difficult diseases and leveraging the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine.
