Digital Orthopedic Technology Clinical Application Enhancement Research Project is Officially Launched, with Peking University Third Hospital Designated as an Innovation Demonstration Center

From June 30 to July 1, 2023, the launch ceremony and the first working meeting for the "Digital Orthopedic Innovation Demonstration Center" research project, aimed at enhancing clinical application capabilities of digital orthopedic technologies, took  place in Chongqing. This event was organized by the National Health Commission's Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center. Peking University Third Hospital has been recognized as one of the first three Digital Orthopedic Innovation Demonstration Centers. The hospital's Orthopedic Joint Surgery Director, Professor Tian Hua, holds the position of Executive Deputy Leader of the project's expert group, while Associate Director Zhao Minwei steps into the role of Deputy Leader of the project working group.

Speech by Zheng Chaoying

The launch ceremony was held simultaneously with the inaugural working meeting of the project working group. Zheng Chaoying, the head of the Industry Development Office at the National Health Commission's Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center, emphasized the importance of General Secretary Xi Jinping's statement at the 20th National Congress, where he explicitly stated, "We must adhere to the principle that science and technology are the primary productive forces, talent is the primary resource, and innovation is the primary driving force." The establishment of the digital orthopedic research project is a robust and proactive response to this directive.

Speech by Wang Kunzheng

Professor Wang Kunzheng, the leader of the project's expert group and theincumbent Director-Elect of the Orthopedics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, as well as a professor at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, emphasized in his speech the importance of advancing the innovative application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, surgical robots, and 3D printing in the medical industry. He highlighted the establishment of the "Research Project on Enhancing Clinical Application Capabilities in Digital Orthopedic Technologies" and urged for accelerated efforts to propel the progress of the project, aiming to position it as a pinnacle of innovation research in digital orthopedic technology.

Tian Hua Presents an Overview of the Project

Tian Hua, the Executive Deputy Leader of the project's expert group, presented an overview of the research project focusing on the clinical application capabilities of digital orthopedic technologies. Heprovided a detailed outline of the work plan for the upcoming three years and offered guidance on the specific implementation of the project. The objectives include establishing a standardized system for the clinical application capabilities of digital orthopedic technologies, creating a platform for intelligent and digital orthopedic innovation, and enhancing the capacity for medical technology application and innovative transformation.

Zhao Minwei as Deputy Leader of the Project Working Group

Zhao Minwei, the Deputy Leader of the project working group, organized a comprehensive discussion on topics such as the current state of research on digital technology in orthopedic clinical applications, as well as the construction and management of regional innovation bases. This was done to facilitate the steady progress of various aspects of the project.

In the future, with strong support from the hospital, the Orthopedics Department will rely on this research project to developguidelines, consensus, and industry standards related to digital orthopedic technology. Regular events aimed at enhancing digital orthopedic capabilities will be held to improve the application of medical technology and the capacity for innovative transformation, ultimately benefiting a broad range of orthopedic patients with digital technology.
