On May 14, 2026, Professor Cui Ming's team from the Department of Cardiology at Peking University Third Hospital and collaborators published a research paper in the journal Autophagy titled "PRKN-IMMT/MIC60 axis promotes myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury via lysosomal degradation of GPX4" online.

The study reveals the pathological mechanism by which PRKN promotes cardiomyocyte ferroptosis by degrading the mitochondrial inner membrane protein IMMT under ischemia-reperfusion conditions. It clarifies the key role of the PRKN-IMMT-GPX4 signaling axis in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and enriches understanding of PRKN's functions in mitochondrial quality control and cell fate. The findings suggest that the PRKN-IMMT axis may serve as a potential therapeutic target for myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, providing a theoretical basis for improving the prognosis of reperfusion therapy in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Professor Cui Ming, Associate Professor Lu Guang of Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, and Professor Bai Yun of Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences are co-corresponding authors of the paper. Chen Qian, a doctoral student in the Department of Cardiology at Peking University Third Hospital, and Liu Shuhan and Jiang Mengqi, graduate students at Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences, are co-first authors.
