Peking University Third Hospital Hosts the Second Symposium on Medical Ultrasound Development and Innovation

From May 15 to 17, 2026, the Second Symposium on Medical Ultrasound Development and Innovation, hosted by the Ultrasound Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association for Women and the Biomedical Imaging Technology Branch of the China Medicinal Biotech Association, among other organizations, and organized by Peking University Third Hospital, was held at the Beijing International Convention Center.

Academician Qiao Jie, Executive Vice President of Peking University Health Science Center and President of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association for Women, noted that ultrasound medicine in China is moving from keeping pace to taking the lead. She expressed the hope that independently developed industry gold standards would rewrite international guidelines and benefit more people. Fu Wei, President of Peking University Third Hospital, affirmed the achievements of the Department of Ultrasound Medicine in discipline development, clinical services, and research innovation. Wang Jinqian, Vice President of the China Medicinal Biotech Association, emphasized that ultrasound medicine should remain clinically oriented and accelerate breakthroughs in core technologies as well as the translation of industry-university-research outcomes. Li Jianchu, Chair of the Ultrasound Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, pointed out that ultrasound medicine has developed into a core clinical platform discipline and should follow a development path of standards first, medical-engineering collaboration, and empowerment of primary-level care.

During the symposium, the Department of Ultrasound Medicine of Peking University was established, with Professor Cui Ligang, Director of the Department of Ultrasound Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital, appointed as its founding director. In addition, the old photo collection and digital museum project titled "Frozen Moments: The Ultrasound Journey" was launched.

The symposium included keynote reports and five parallel sessions covering musculoskeletal and superficial ultrasound, cardiovascular ultrasound, abdominal, obstetric and gynecological, and interventional ultrasound, molecular imaging, artificial intelligence, and other fields. Dai Zhifei of Peking University, Jiang Tian'an of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Gao Mingyuan of Soochow University, and Zhou Jianqiao of Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, delivered keynote reports. The symposium also included sessions such as presentations by outstanding young scholars and a forum for visiting physicians, with more than 100 academic presentations in total.
