INTRODUCTION

PUTH was founded in 1958. At the same time the hematology department was organized as an independent part with only 2 doctors. In 1988 we established an ward with 20 beds. More patients with various blood diseases could be treatment then. We performed the first auto peripheral blood haematopoietic stem cell transplantation successfully in 1989. After that more and more patients received this treatment and we made conclusions of our experiences to form some principles that were used in many other hospitals. Up to 2008 more than 100 patients recieved APBSCT and 17 patients received HLA-matching or part matching allogenous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. 5 years over all survive rate of acute myelogenous leukemia is improved to 74.3% and that of lymphoma is 83.33%. As the development of hematology department , our team become bigger. Professor Ke xiaoyan was made our chief in 1997 and the ward was enlarged to 54 beds including 3 air layer flow rooms for tansplantation , 6 air layer flow beds for patients with immunodeficiency in 2003. Now our staff consists of 40 persons including 4 professors, 3 associated professors, 5 attending doctors, 3 residents and 25 nurses. We possess one advanced hematology laboratory and professional investigators. We can do not only the common examination of blood and bone marrow but also some special examinations such as CD34+cell counting, HLA typing, stem cell culture, chromosome test ,immunochemistry test, cytogenetics test.
