The Clinical Stem Cell Research Center of Peking University Third Hospital (hereinafter referred to as the "Stem Cell Center") was founded in 2006 and is one of the first batch of national stem cell clinical research filing institutions and the vice chairman unit of the National Stem Cell Resource Pool Innovation Alliance.
The Clinical Stem Cell Research Center of Peking University Third Hospital began the research of conducting stem cell based on scientific research projects as early as year of 2000, and established a human embryonic stem cell line in 2008. Subsequently, the center established and constructed inducible pluripotent stem cell lines and retinal disease cell banks in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and renovated GMP laboratories. In 2013, we began to establish a cell storage library, laying a solid foundation for the development of somatic clinical research. In 2016, the Clinical Stem Cell Research Center became one of the first batch of stem cell clinical research filing institutions approved by the National Health Commission, and was approved as a stem cell clinical research filing project in 2018.
In order to meet the growing demand for basic research and clinical transformation of cell therapy, the Stem Cell Center was upgraded and renovated in 2021, and the new center officially started operation in the spring of 2022. The new center is located on the second floor of the Health Medicine Center Building of Peking University Third Hospital, with a construction area of over a thousand square meters. It has six GMP laboratories for ordinary cell preparation and gene editing cell preparation, as well as a complete cell quality control center and clinical level stem cell storage library. The Stem Cell Center not only has a clinical grade sterile work area that is comparable to the cleanliness of the operating room, but also has advanced instruments such as the Thermo-Fisher CryoPlus liquid nitrogen storage tank, fully automatic blood cell analyzer, flow cytometry, fully automatic bacterial mycobacterium culture monitoring system, and is equipped with relevant academic background staff, Make the new center a full process service-oriented clinical stem cell research platform that integrates stem cell production, research, use, and storage.
The Stem Cell Center currently has faculty and staff with academic backgrounds in stem cell and genetic development, cell biology, tissue engineering, bioinformatics, and clinical medicine. Its unique services include stem cell preparation and storage, virus testing of cell preparations, microbial testing, flow cytometry, endotoxin testing, mycoplasma testing, cell viability and counting, etc, In the future, we will also carry out targeted cell therapy and gene correction therapy for rare and chronic diseases, and be responsible for providing application guidance, project approval review, registration and process supervision for clinical stem cell research projects in the hospital. We will also manage the quality and risk control of the entire process of stem cell preparation and clinical research.
As a clinical stem cell research - innovation - application service platform, the Clinical Stem Cell Research Center looks forward to exchanging and cooperating with experts and institutions from various disciplines in fields such as interdisciplinary, information, and resource sharing!
