Introduction

The Department of Stomatology was established in 1958, at the same time when our hospital was founded, with only 3 dental units originally. After more than 60 years’ development and several generations’ joint efforts, our department has now evolved into a modern department, complete with all the clinical sub-groups such as oral medicine (cariology and endodontology, periodontology, oral mucosiology, and pediatric dentistry), oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, and orthodontics. We have integral talents echelon, and nearly 20 chief physicians or associate chief physicians, more than 40 attending physicians, and dozens of resident physicians are available. Equal attention is paid to clinic medicine, medical education, and scientific research.

Except the headquarters, we have also 4 external divisions, namely the airport branch, the northern hospital branch, the C.P.C. central committee party school branch，and the second clinic branch. 54 dental units were installed in our department, 10, 17, 3, and 5 dental units were respectively set up in the aforesaid branches. Furthermore, our department is well equipped with 3 advanced cone beam computed tomography machines, nearly 10 dental digital imaging devices such as digital dental X-ray machines and digital panoramic X-ray machines, nearly 10 dental operative microscopes, and many sets of dental digital medical equipment. Complete and advanced sterilizing equipment and a leading information management system are set up in each branch. All of these not only help the improvement of medical quality, but also provide a strong support for further development of the department. Now, we can complete all the specialized treatments with a high level, and form our own characteristics in minimally invasive tooth extraction, microscopic RCT and endodontic microsurgery, precision casting, precision attachment restoration, implant restoration, adult orthodontics, implant anchorage, systemic periodontal therapy, and so on.

Attaching much importance to comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, we proposed and established the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA) Society of General Dentistry combined with the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army and many other stomatology departments of heavyweight general hospitals in 2008. We were the 1st chairman unit of CSA Society of General Dentistry from 2009 to 2012, and now is the 4th chairman unit.

Education assignments including the stomatological teaching of six-year overseas students from department of stomatology, Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC) and eight-year students from department of clinical medicine, PKUHSC, the training of refresher doctors, and the standardized training of dental resident doctors, were undertook.

There are many longitudinal funds completed or under research in our department. So far, 14 drug clinical trial projects have been undertaken, and also many China national practical new-type patents have been obtained. More than 20 person-times hold important academic positions in national or local dental academic community, and some are editorial board members of stomatological journals.

Our department has been in the forefront of stomatology departments of general hospitals in Beijing for a long time in the past 20 years. Peer recognition and widely praised from patients are gained. We will keep doing our best to provide high-quality services for the patients.
