Peking University Third Hospital Co-hosts the Fifth Asia Reigional Forum on Mixed Methods Research Conference

From September 8 to 10, 2023, the Fifth Asia Regional Forum on Mixed Methods Research Conference and the Beijing Continuing Education Project, as well as the Sixth Symposium on Medical Qualitative and Mixed Research Methods, were held in Beijing. The conference was co-hosted by Peking University Third Hospital, the Chinese Chapter of the International Mixed Methods Research Association, and other organizations. Professor Tang Yida, Vice President of Peking University Third Hospital; Professor Zhan Siyan, the conference chair, Dean of the School of Public Health at Peking University, and Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Research Center at Peking University Third Hospital; Professor John W. Creswell from the University of Michigan, also a conference chair, attended and delivered speeches. More than 300 experts, scholars, and professionals from domestic and international fields participated in the event.

Experts Present Keynote Reports

At the conference, Professor John W. Creswell shared the 35-year history of the development of mixed methods research. Loraine Cook, President of the International Mixed Methods Research Association, introduced the overview of the association. Chairpersons/representatives from the mixed methods research chapters of Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and China respectively presented the current development status, challenges, and prospects of mixed methods research in their countries. Chu Hongling, representing the Chinese Chapter from the Clinical Epidemiology Research Center of Peking University Third Hospital, introduced the development status of mixed methods research in China.

Workshop

During the conference, Professor John W. Creswell and Chair Loraine Cook conducted workshops on qualitative and mixed methods research. Parallel forums on medicine, sociology, and education featured keynote reports and paper exchanges in their respective sessions.

Parallel Sub-forums

At the Sixth Annual Domestic Conference on Mixed Methods Research, Professor Zhao Yiming from the Clinical Epidemiology Research Center of Peking University Third Hospital shared his thoughts on the application and development of mixed methods research. Experts from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, the Medical Department of Peking University, Beijing Normal University, the Medical Department of Peking University, Sichuan University, and Peking University Third Hospital gave specialized reports on the application of mixed methods research in their respective fields.
