On June 24, 2024, the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People. The project "Study on Epigenetic Regulation Mechanisms and Intergenerational Transmission Patterns in Human Reproductive Development," with Peking University Third Hospital as the leading organization and Academician Qiao Jie as the lead researcher, won the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award. This is the first time Peking University Third Hospital has received a Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award since its establishment.
This project has advanced basic research in reproductive development in China. The newly developed methods for genetic diagnosis and assessment of gametes and embryos have been patented and commercialized, and incorporated into industry standards and consensus guidelines. These advancements provide etiological diagnostic bases for precise diagnosis and treatment of reproductive developmental disorders and birth defects, offering crucial scientific support for enhancing fertility and improving birth quality.
